Toward an integrated linkage map of common bean. III. Mapping genetic factors controlling host-bacteria interactions
Article Abstract:
The genetic control of Rhizobium tropici nodule number and resistance to Xanthomonas campestris pv phaseoli are examined in common bean using restriction fragment length polymorphism-based genetic linkage maps and regression and interval mapping analyses. The same genomic regions were identified for both traits, consisting of four putative quantitative trait loci (QTL). A linkage group D7 chromosome region was found to contain factors involved in both traits. In the remaining cases, however, the putative QTLs influencing each trait were found to be situated in distinct linkage groups or existing far from each other in the same linkage group.

A molecular marker-based linkage map of Phaseolus vulgaris L
Article Abstract:
A linkage map of the common bean, Phaseolus vulgaris was constructed using restriction fragment length polymorphism markers. The probes used for the analysis originated from a PstI genomic library enriched for single copy sequences. These were used to probe the backcross progeny of a Mesoamerican breeding line, XR-235-1-1 and the Calima cultivar, with the former acting as the recurring parent. Pattern analysis using the computer program Mapmaker, revealed 11 linkage groups covering 960 cM of the bean genome. The partial linkage data was used to estimate the length of the genome at about 1,200 cM.

Linkage maps in pea
Article Abstract:
A linkage map of pea was constructed based on restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of recombinant inbreds. The map derived from one cross used 151 markers spanning approximately 1,700 cM. Comparisons of three recombinant inbred populations showed that the map is not universal. At least one region of the genome could exist in several different linkage arrangements. These results indicate that some degree of caution should be exercised during the interpretation of various linkage maps derived for many organisms.
