Two distinct 18S rRNA secondary structures in Dipodascus (Hemiascomycetes)
Article Abstract:
Two 18S rRNA secondary structures distinct from one another in Dipodascus (Hemiascomycetes) are discussed. Nucleotide sequences of the gene from ascomycetous yeast-like fungi in three genera were found. Tested strains were separated into two groups by sequence length. It appears that several deletions occurred in the 18S rRNA of the common ancestor of the group of strains in which the 18S rRNA gene sequences were about 150 nt shorter than those of most other eukaryotes and in which the predicted secondary structure did not have helices E21-5 and 10.

Cloning of a protopectinase gene of Trichosporon penicillatum and its expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Article Abstract:
The gene encoding the Trichosporon penicillatum protopectinase (PPase) SE3 was cloned by utilizing DNA probes that were based on sequences that were common to the PPase genes of the yeast strain. Nucleotide sequence analysis of the Trichosporon penicillatum SE3 PSE3 gene that was cloned via colony hybridization indicated the presence of an open reading frame that encoded an amino acid protein that exhibited three distinct conformations. Furthermore, the PSE3 gene did not contain introns and was produced in low levels by Trichosporon penicillatum.

Mutational and hyperexpression-induced disruption of bipolar budding in yeast
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that bipolar budding disruption in yeast is mediated by a mutant allele of the MYO2 and other genes encoding class-V myosin, profilin, and Atc1p protein, none having any effect on actin cytoskeleton. Data also indicate that overproduction of the actin-regulatory profilin perturbs bipolar budding.
