Use of the integration elements encoded by the temperate lactococcal bacteriophage TP901-1 to obtain chromosomal single-copy transcriptional fusions in Lactococcus lactis
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to demonstrate that the one phage-expressed protein (Orf1) can promote site-specific integration of an attP-carrying plasmid into the attB site of the Lactococcus lactis subsp cremoris chromosome region even when the orf1 gene is separated from the attP region. Results based on the deletion analysis of the attP region of TP901-1 revealed that a fragment containing 56 bp of the attP region is sufficient for the site-specific integration of a nonreplicating plasmid into the chromosome of L. lactis subsp cremoris when the orf1 gene is donated in trans.

Resolvase-like recombination performed by the TP901-1 integrase
Article Abstract:
Results show that the lactococcal bacteriophage TP901-1 integrase exhibits a site-sepecific recombination utilizing a 56 base pair attP fragment that recombines with the chromosomal attB site. Data indicate that two bases outside the attB core region are involved in the in vitro binding of the enzyme.

An activator of transcription regulates phage TP901-1 late gene expression
Article Abstract:
The P335 group of lactococcal bacteriophages appear to have at least two transcription regulatory systems that are activated in the late stages of the lytic cycle. These could be used as targets for eliminating the phage from Lactococcus lactis.
