Vocal signals of the village weaver: A spectrographic key and the communication code
Article Abstract:
A spectrographic key to the vocal signals of the African Village Weaver (Ploceus cucullatus) is provided, suggesting ways of describing the vocal repertoire. Short distance contact calls were given in favorable situations, characterized by low amplitude and brevity of notes. Alarm cries were longer and loud with much energy at high frequencies, with threat notes emphasizing lower frequencies.

Assessing vocal variety in the Winter Wren, a bird with a complex repertoire
Article Abstract:
A study of the singing patterns of the Winter Wren reveals their collection of song types to be changing in tune with different periods such as their breeding seasons and gradually with increase in their age. Syllable noises based on acoustic sound were found to be the most likely features in the initial portion of the 21 song types recorded in male birds of the species.
