Spencer Hays' old-fashioned direct sales approach has made his diverse line of companies very successful. Hays' companies sell men's suits, health insurance, and books, and none of them makes use of retailers or distributors. Hays' believes in the importance of motivating salespeople, teaching them how to sell, and building quality into the workforce. He offers a stock sharing program to many of his employees.

In southern France, a step back in time

The city of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie is in the Lot River Valley in southern France. It is a medieval village founded in the 10th century and offers lovely views, delicious regional cooking, and many lovely historic sites. Cajarc is another nearby town, well worth seeing for its dining experiences, antique and art shops, and an ancient bridge with beautiful views.
