Article Abstract:
December 2003 would be the 20th anniversary of the float of the Australian dollar, probably the boldest economic step that Australia has taken for generations. In 1997, though the Asian economies fell into recession, the Australian dollar did not sink, as it was not tied to an exchange rate, showing that even a weak currency can be good for jobs and incomes.
