One of the six factors that make a company and its chief executive worthy of admiration is the dynamic approach towards innovations. Businesses that are inclined to settle for the present smooth sailing scenario without making any provision for the oncoming technological onslought are the probable condidates for quitting the industry scenario. The importance of technological adoption, research and innovations are highlighted citing examples of succesful companies.

The figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that research and development (R&D) spending for 2002-03 showed an increase of 8% on the previous year. Foreign companies represent 18% of revenue in Australia but account for a third of R&D expenditure.
