A nation of shopkeepers hits the web
Article Abstract:
Many Australians are using the Internet to set up World Wide Web small business sites as a secondary means of employment to supplement their income. Many online ventures will fail, and few will allow their part-time operators to quit their prime employment. Christine Jones set up The Jones Shop, which sells Jones-labelled clothing to others named Jones. Her site attracts 500 visitors a week. Some Internet business operators, however, have quit their day jobs. Jardine and Huy Truong and Cathy Sonnemann operate their gift-services web site full time and expect sales of $2 million.
