A struggling Adobe rejects bid by Quark
Article Abstract:
Adobe Systems Inc., a pioneer in the desktop publishing industry, rejected a takeover bid by Quark Inc., a close rival. Adobe recently announced a major reorganization which include personnel layoffs, which has added fuel to Quark's desire to takeover the larger public company. But many in the industry are doubtful that Quark Inc. which is a smaller privately-owned company, will have the finances to pull off the deal. Quark Inc. insists that they want to buy Adobe, however, and hint that they may attempt a hostile takeover if Adobe doesn't comply.

Novell, once foundering, finds a way to coexist with Microsoft
Article Abstract:
Novell Inc. will announce the availability of a new version of Netware, one month ahead of schedule. The timing is crucial for Novell, because Microsoft announced that Windows NT 5.0 would not be on the market anytime soon. Windows NT 5.0 is an intended Netware killer. Industry analysts say Microsoft's technology snags could delay Windows NT 5.0 until next summer. Novell contends that new products designed to make it easier to use the Internet will give customers renewed reasons to buy software from Novell.
