Addressing the contingent effects of business unit strategic orientation on relationships between organizational context and business unit performance
Article Abstract:
Strategic orientation's moderating role in studying business unit performance measures and relationships between organisational context variables is described and analysed. Giving decision-making autonomy to business units is shown to positively affect performance for companies applying differentiation-based strategies, while negatively affecting the performance of low-cost companies. Performance in low-cost companies is positively affected by sharing programs and resources between business units. Cluster analysis is applied to show evidence of strategic clusters.

Employee performance cues in a hotel service environment: influence on perceived service quality, value, and word-of-mouth intentions
Article Abstract:
A study to investigate employee performance cues in the hotel industry is presented. Results indicate that employees in charge of front desk, housekeeping and parking are the most significant in providing perceived quality service and value for customers. Housekeeping employees alone have a direct effect on word-of-mouth intentions. The investigation was based on the frequency of interaction between employees and customers and the tangibility of performance cues.

Strategic adaptation to extended rivalry: effects on organizational performance
Article Abstract:
Models for analyzing the relationships between buyers and suppliers as well as the rival buyers and suppliers which affect an organization's production strategies are analyzed. These models are based on variables involving the buyer's or supplier's ability to control prices, supplies and the production of substitute products that may compete with one firm's products. Thus, extended rivalry is conceived to apply to suppliers and other producers.
