The proposed $13.9 billion acquisition of McDonnell Douglas Corp. by Boeing Co. is seen as a positive financial move by both companies, especially with Douglas' poor sales of commercial aircraft and loss of key defense contracts. Lockheed Martin Corp. is expected to reenter the commercial airline market as a low-risk contractor and supplier, and the company is enhancing its approach to the $100 Jet Strike Fighter contract by working with Northrop Grumman Corp.
