Alaskan fishermen set up a blockade of oil tankers in Prince William Sound to protest the environmental damage caused by the 1989 'Exxon Valdez' oil spill and Exxon Corp's poor response. Only $19 million of the $240 million contributed by Exxon had gone toward restoration projects.

Researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Assn disagreed with Exxon Corp's report on the 1989 'Exxon Valdez' oil spill. Exxon claimed that 73% to 91% of the shores of Prince William Sound had recovered from the spill.
