AlliedSignal indicates it might raise its bid if AMP will talk
Article Abstract:
AlliedSignal Inc. said it would consider raising its $9.99 billion unsolicited bid for AMP Inc., if AMP's management agrees to talks. AlliedSignal launched a hostile $44.50-a-share tender offer for AMP earlier this month. AMP's board rejected the offer and has refused to meet with AlliedSignals representatives. AMP said that the best way for the company to "create value" is to pursue its own profit-improvement plans, but added that the board could not rule out a higher offer. No other bidder has emerged for AMP, and the company has stood behind a strong shareholder-rights plan and Pennsylvania's tough antitakeover laws.

Pace of ad mergers is expected to continue
Article Abstract:
AdMedia Partners polled ad agencies in January and announced that acquisitions are still very much the plan just like last year, a record year with $1 billion worth of acquisitions and mergers in the industry. Most of the people polled say that new electronic marketing is the segment to ad to an agency's capabilities. There is also much interest in small shops that specialize in a particular field such as health-care.
