Apple's first annual profit since 1995: Chief boasts of signs of renewed strength
Article Abstract:
"Sensational," "spectacular," and "turnaround," were just a few of the words used by both insiders and outsiders when Steve Jobs of Apple Computers announced the company's profits making this the first profitable year since 1995. iMac is the reason, the easy-Internet-access PC that's selling as fast as they can be manufactured for an affordable $1299. Market research firm, PC Data, says iMac is now the third-best seller in the US. The company can be more focused now that 15 products have been reduced to only 3.

Another e-mail security problem is discovered, this one in Eudora
Article Abstract:
San Diego-based Qualcomm Corp., the maker of Eudora, will make a repaired version of the e-mail software available on its Web site following the discovery of a serious security flaw that would allow even a novice computer attacker to destroy or steal data in the personal computers of the over half a million Eudora users. Industry analysts estimate that there are over 18 million copies of the flawed 4.0, 4.0.1 and 4.1 versions of Eudora. Flaws were also identified in Microsoft's and Netscape's e-mail software.

3Com to offer a Palm Pilot with wireless capabilities
Article Abstract:
3Com Corp. has seen skepticism before, so the company is not daunted by skeptics of its still-untested wireless Palm Pilot. Once it has passed the test of wireless connection to the Internet in early-1999, Palm Pilot VII will go on sale. The $800 version of the electronic organizer will have only limited access to the Web, though. The cost of a basic plan will run about $10 per month for the service and about $.30 for 1,000 characters of information, allowing an average of six visits to the Web per day.
