America West to show its humble side
Article Abstract:
America West Airlines launched a new ad campaign in its hub cities for now, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Columbus, Ohio. Created by Publicis & Hal Riney, the ads are meant to reach the consumer on a reality level rather than with a pie-in-the-sky approach that airlines haven't been able to live up to. The new tagline is, "Every flight counts." A decision as to whether or not to make these ads national will be made at a later date.

Continental to face a hurdle on America West
Article Abstract:
United Airlines and Delta are both in early talks with America West to purchase the Phoenix-based airline. But Continental wants control by buying certain Class A shares that would give it a 49% voting stake for an estimated $50 million. The investor group with the Class A shares insists that a purchase would have to be the whole company, not 49%, which could cost well over $1 billion.
