Architectural innovation in product development through early supplier integration
Article Abstract:
The involvement of suppliers in the early stages of product development provides several advantages to manufacturing firms as exemplified by the collaboration between primary suppliers and the US government to enhance product development in the military aerospace sector. Strong relationships between primary suppliers and manufacturers result to the establishment of strong and long-term competitive advantages and the development of better products. Moreover, the apportioning of more design-build responsibilities to suppliers enhances the relationship between customers and suppliers.
