As more buyers suffer from upgrade fatigue, PC sales are falling; manufacturers slash R&D in relentless price war, and innovation is victim
Article Abstract:
Personal computer shipments have dropped for the first time since the late 1980s as the industry is starting to show signs of saturation that charactize other major consumer goods industries. With more than 500 million PCs sold since 1982, the industry faces a market where many consumers see no need to engage in further upgrades as there is currently no new software that would require such a move. As computer makers such as Dell seek to reduce prices in response, there is a fear that research and development will suffer in the future due to funding cuts.
