Windows XP's retail sales are trailing pace set by its predecessor, Windows 98
Article Abstract:
According to NPD Techworld, Microsoft's sales of Windows XP was down from 400,000 in October to 250,000 for November. This might be explained by the weakened economy and because a consumer needs considerable memory to run XP; only one-fourth of computer-owners have the capacity to run the new software. NPD reported that personal computers were selling well this holiday season. Microsoft says it has sold 7 million copies of XP; the product represents less than 10% of the company's revenue, about $50-$100 million in revenue altogether.
