BellSouth net rose 6.6% for 4th quarter

Atlanta-based BellSouth Corp. earned $1.12 billion per share and a 6.6% rise in fourth quarter income. The regional telecommunications company saw it's 40% of Cingular Wireless reward them with a 10% rise. The company's ownership of wireless services in Colombia may or may not have been included in forecasts. Mostly, reports went along with expectations. In the U.S., revenue went up 33% to $1.2 billion. Internationally, income rose 26% to $740 million.

Verizon reports solid results amid sales growth

Verizon Communications Inc. reported third-quarter earnings results that matched analysts' estimates. The operating profit was 73 cents per share or $2 billion. Net income was boosted 39.6% to $3.5 billion.
