Canadian Energy Industry
Article Abstract:
Stocks for the Canadian Energy Industry have fared well throughout most of 1997. Oil and natural-gas prices have become more moderate following unusual highs early in 1997, but prospects in this market remain viable. Production growth is unusually good at many junior producers. Pipeline producers have been hindered by a lower allowed rate of return on capital. Investors will find a number of equities in this market that provide worthwhile total-return possibilities.

Article Abstract:
Weak oil markets have hurt the profits of Canadian petroleum companies in 1998 and these stocks have done poorly over the past year. Low demand and high supply are expected to remain over the next year in the petroleum industry, but hope remains in the natural gas segment in the coming 12 months. These stocks are not timely in late 1998, but the natural gas stocks may be undervalued.
