Capital budgeting for volume flexible equipment
Article Abstract:
A contingent claims valuation model for determining the optimal budget for volume flexible equipment is proposed. The model, which assumes a stochastic demand, correlates the operations and financial aspects of capital allocation decisions by quantitatively linking productivity, volume flexibility, managerial control over output, and the firm's market value as decision variables. It is based on the concept that volume flexibility results in lower costs, more sales and better customer service.

Strategic assessment model (SAM): a multiple criteria decision support system for evaluation of strategic alternatives
Article Abstract:
A multiple criteria decision support system is developed for evaluating strategic alternatives. The strategic assessment model incorporates the objective information and subjective judgment of the expert. Decision-making is also aided by the breakdown of environmental factors into components used with the analytic hierarchy process, subjective probabilities, entropy concept and utility theory. An application of the model is discussed.

Automatic generation of symbolic multiattribute ordinal knowledge-based DSSs: methodology and applications
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to evaluate the ordinal learning model (OLM). The learning-by-experience algorithm which determines symbolic rule-bases from examples was used in four real-world multiattribute ordinal problem domains. The study compares the OLM with other knowledge-based decision support systems. Results show that the model's predictions were accurate and its rule-bases were compact.
