Who will answer when Apple calls?
Article Abstract:
Gilbert F. Amelio has abruptly resigned his position as Apple's Chmn and CEO. The company has been through three CEOs since 1993. Apple stock did not drop significantly when Amelio's resignation was announced. This is because Amelio's leaving is not necessarily being viewed as a bad thing for the company and because Apple's stock has already fallen so low. Many industry observers believe Steve Jobs, a co-founder of Apple and a board members, is obvious candidate to take over the leadership of Apple. However many believe Jobs would never risk being so close to the final collapse of the company he founded in 1976. The only person so far that has volunteered for the position is venture capitalist, Stewart Alsop. In a column in Fortune magazine, Alsop said he was available for the job.
