Changing times, changing paradigms
Article Abstract:
Changing economic relations, work roles and developments in information technology raise many questions about how companies can operate most effectively. Managers must be able to adapt quickly to change and not necessarily accept old doctrines which worked in the past. Managers need to be able to cope with an uncertain world, have a versatile and flexible approach to strategic planning, accept smaller autonomous work units and promote continuous learning which meets the changing needs of the working environment.

Joan Woodward (1916-71): the foundation for contingency theory
Article Abstract:
British management theorist Joan Woodward had a significant impact on management thought. She is particularly well known for her pioneering study of 100 South East Essex companies and for establishing the school of management thought now known as 'Contingency Theory of Organisation.' This view states that all companies should be organised differently according to the underlying production process and product, with the external environment also being considered.
