Primakov replaces Kozyrev as top envoy

Russian Pres Boris Yeltsin accepted the resignation of long-time political ally and liberal reformer Andrei V Kozyrev on Jan 5, 1996. The new Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov had been the head of the Russian intelligence service. Vyacheslav Trubnikov will replace Primakov.

Parliament annuls Soviet Union breakup
Article Abstract:
The Communist-dominated Duma voted on Mar 15, 1996, to revoke the 1991 Belovezhye accord, which officially disbanded the Soviet Union. The resolution has no binding effect. Russian Pres Boris Yeltsin, leaders of break-away republics and the US condemned the resolution.
