Competition and audit fees
Article Abstract:
The movement of audit fees during a period of increasing competition in the independent audit services market is examined. The results show that real audit fees declined significantly in the period between 1977 and 1981, in line with the increase in competition among independent audit services. The results were obtained using data compiled from a sample of 78 firms that reported their external audit fees for the period between 1977 and 1981.
