Cybersmart: education and the Internet
Article Abstract:
The Internet is revolutionizing classroom and educational processes. Statistics indicate that around 55% of the 2,215 four-year colleges and universities in the US already offer courses off-site, and that one million students are participating in virtual college classrooms. The proliferation of 'cyberprograms' and 'cyberuniversities' reflects the rapid pace of technological innovations, the growth in computer use in homes and offices, the growing comfort with technology, and the rising cost of traditional education. The Internet offers a number of educational tools, including the electronic mail system, listservs or netnews, chat rooms and the World Wide Web. Trends in education expected in the future include the growth in learning from the home or office, the emergence of 'cyberteachers' and the rise of a number of 'star' teachers and universities.

Home invasion
Article Abstract:
Internet users can protect their online privacy by being alert and vigilant. Users should be cognizant of the fact that violations of privacy on the Internet are common because anyone can publish online. The key is to be skeptical toward any information received on the Internet and verify the authenticity of this information through secondary sources. The mail bombs, for instance, can be avoided by notifying an Internet service provider to block them at their router level. These massive electronic mailings, delivered in a short period of time, can also be avoided by using multiple electronic mail addresses. Meanwhile, it is important to send electronic mail messages in encrypted form especially when they are confidential to prevent hackers and other Internet users with malicious intent from reading them.
