DP Training Needs an Overhaul to Meet Industry Demands
Article Abstract:
In Japan education is geared toward preparation for business and technology, while in Australia there were 1,200 computer science graduates in 1981 for 8000 job openings, according to Mr. Gordon Hooper, senior consultant of Maxim Management Consultants Pty Ltd. Instead of recruiting overseas, companies should develop in-house training, support outside courses, and incorporate incentives for skills, productivity and morale. Miss Jennifer Cattell, account representative for Advance Systems, states that the emphasis in training should be for future, long-term needs and that the effectiveness of such training should be carefully tested and monitored.
