Polyphenols put sparkle in Japanese sales
Article Abstract:
Cheap wine and several snack foods that have questionable nutrient value are being fortified with polyphenols in Japan. Consumers there want the substance in their food rather than pill form, so companies are obliging. The plant compound can be found naturally in tea, grape seeds and other foods. The health claim by marketers is that it might prevent heart disease. That claim does wonders for sales of a product.
