The population growth that would find United States by 2016 in the throes of demographic shifts that would upend its political, economic and technological priorities and redefine its market is presented. The family would be redefined from a two-generation 'nuclear' family to a three or even four-generation affair, a return to the beginning of the 20th century.

Florida and his team lead by Kevin Stolarick, assistant professor with the Information systems Program at Cernegie Mellon University identified seven US cities with populations between 1 million and 5 million and the three cities between 400,000 and 1 million that have offered the most potent mix of talent, technology and tolerance in recent years.
