Diery, a key strategist at Apple, quits amid reshuffling that cut his power
Article Abstract:
One of Apple's most influential executives and a driving force behind the company's push to regain market share, Ian W. Diery, has resigned after a corporate reorganization cut his power. Diery's resignation comes after an internal restructuring that divided his hardware division into three parts, according to sources close to the company. The former executive vice president had ironically helped the company with its reorganization. However, Diery left when he found out he would not have control of the three pieces of his former division and was unsure of his role in the new organization. The reorganization will be implemented over the course of several months. Analysts say CEO Michael Spindler was concerned about the company's ability to cut prices, market new products and license Apple software on schedule, which was largely the responsibility of Diery.

Apple's board finally gets aggressive as DuPont's Woolard takes lead role
Article Abstract:
Apple board member, Edgar S. Woolard Jr, was the one who asked Gilbert F. Amelio for his resignation. Woolard is the chairman of DuPont and has only been on the board since Jun 1996. It is assumed that he is behind the board's decision to oust Amelio from his leadership role. Woolard has added new energy and expertise to Apple's board. He not only informed Amelio of the board's decision, he also refused to consider Amelio's arguments for staying on. Woolard is one of the strongest leaders on Apple's board. He is a leading figure in American business and holds a position in the prestigious Business Council. Other Apple board members include Bernard Goldstein, Delano E. Lewis and Garth C.C. Chang.
