Dow takes on a new, high-technology look
Article Abstract:
The Dow Jones Industrial is adding the Microsoft Corp. and Intel Corp., as well as Home Depot and SBC Communications, and dropping four stocks whose performance has been lagging. The index, whose performance has trailed the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index over the past few years, will probably become more volatile due to the nature of technology stocks. The companies being dropped from the index are Chevron Corp.; Union Carbide Corp.; Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., and Sears, Roebuck & Co. Microsoft and Intel are the first stocks traded on Nasdaq to join the Dow, breaking the monopoly of the New York Stock Exchange-listed firms. Editors of The Wall Street Journal, who determine the components of the index, believe the changes will make the Dow more representative of the changing U.S. economy.

Cheap digital cameras abandon the ordinary
Article Abstract:
Toy digital cameras introduce a fuzziness and low resolution that contrasts with the sharpness and some might say sterile perfection of more expensive equipment. The toy digital camera brings image manipulation to home computer users at a low price. With these devices users of all ages can take pictures, transfer them to a computer and edit them or print them as they are.
