DuPont pulls plug on power plan
Article Abstract:
DuPont Co. and its energy subsidiary Conoco Inc. have withdrawn their plans of a $250 million joint venture with American Electric Power Inc. intended to reduce DuPont's energy costs and expand its electricity business. A DuPont statement released May 18, 1998, said the companies failed to reach a strategic agreement on fundamental issues. DuPont spokesman Clifton Webb, who would not elaborate on the failed talks, said the decision is not related to DuPont's plans to spin off Conoco. American Electric spokesman Pat Hemlepp expressed the company's surprise and disappointment over DuPont's announcement.
