EU-Turkey trade pact established
Article Abstract:
The EU and Turkey signed a trade agreement on Mar 6, 1995, that will reduce or abolish most tariffs on traded goods. The pact also includes a $1.27 billion aid package to Turkey. Greece dropped its 14-year opposition to the trade pact after the EU agreed to consider Cyprus's entry into the EU.

Fishing dispute with Spain erupts

A Spanish fishing vessel was chased by Canadian authorities on Mar 9, 1995, and charged with violating international fishing regulations by harvesting turbot off the coast of Newfoundland. The European Union condemned Canada's behavior, but Canadians fisherman praised the actions.

Fish war with European Union ends

Canada and the European Community have finally reached an agreement over fishing rights in the North Atlantic, after a six-week dispute that almost turned violent when a Canadian vessel seized a Spanish trawler. Canada and the EC will now have the same quota of Greenland halibut.
