Filing to Meet Changing Needs
Article Abstract:
The largest cost in maintaining files is for labor; the next is for storage space. Suspension files reduce the risk of misplacing or damaging the documents. Lateral suspension files allow at least fifty percent more records to be stored in the same area as file cabinets. Indexing through color coded tabs allows quick retrieval. Shelf filing is convenient for a large number of small files or for batch files stored in two-inch thick manila folders. Storage areas should also include racks for tapes and special facilities for microfilm, where necessary.
