Evers-Williams elected NAACP head
Article Abstract:
The NAACP's board of directors, on Feb 18, 1995, voted 30-29 to oust chairman William Gibson and replace him with Evers-Williams. Evers-Williams is the widow of slain civil rights activist Medgar Evers. Gibson had been accused of financial mismanagement.

Barbour elected GOP committee chief

Mississippi attorney and lobbyist Haley Barbour was selected chairman of the Republican National Committee Jan 229, 1993. Barbour defeated four other contestants in an election that was the first to be seriously contested since 1977.
