Prime Minister Major became the first European leader invited to Washington, DC, by Pres Clinton when the two leaders met on Feb 24-25, 1993, to discuss US-UK relations. Major, who supported the provision of food relief to Bosnia, faced domestic problems in the UK.

Clinton hosts Northern Ireland's Sinn Fein leader

Adams, the leader of the IRA's political wing Sinn Fein, was granted a meeting with Pres Clinton on Mar 17, 1995, despite protests from UK politicians. At the urging of UK Prime Minister John Major, Clinton pressed Adams to disarm the IRA's stockpile of weapons.

Sinn Fein gains in Ulster vote
Article Abstract:
Sinn Fein won 12.5% of the vote in local council voting in Northern Ireland on May 19, 1993. The political wing had obtained about 11% of the vote in 1989. The Ulster Unionist Party gained 29% of the vote.
