American Electric Power to purchase natural-gas business

American Electric Power Co. (AEP) announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Equitable Resources Inc.'s natural-gas operations for $320 million. AEP's subisidiary, AEP Resources Inc., is expecting to complete its acquisition of Equitable's "midstream" natural-gas operations by the end of 1998. The operations are located in Texas and Louisiana. They include a 2,000-mile intrastate pipeline system in Louisiana.

Pianist Jamal sues MCA over reissues of song
Article Abstract:
Ahmad Jamal, a jazz pianist, filed a lawsuit against MCA Records and its GRP Records jazz label for allegedly issuing unauthorized releases of his songs. The songs were released on compilation albums and on compact-disk box sets. The music industry is expected to observe the suit very closely because it involves the issue of companies' rights to reissue an artist's work without having obtained their permission.
