GST puts a dent in the optimism
Article Abstract:
Some businesses in Australia are not properly prepared for the goods and services tax (GST) and the year-2000 problem, according to an Ernst & Young survey of 100 companies. Companies have changed views on the GST, with only 30 in favor of it as opposed to 81 in 1998's survey. Twenty two say their accounting systems will not handle the GST. Almost 90 respondents have a year-2000 plan in place, but nearly 40 say they have not investigated the possible effects of the year-2000 problem throughout their supply chains. The survey also covers interest rates and electronic commerce.
