The House of Representatives passed a rule that would allow members to only receive gifts from close friends and relatives, and turned down an amendment that would have allowed them to disclose gifts at least $50 in value and allowed them to participate in charity events.

Senate passes AIDS treatment act

Funding for the Ryan White Care Act was reauthorized by the Senate on Jul 27, 1995, by a vote of 97-3. The bill funds various state and local AIDS programs. Sen Helms had attempted to reduce funding for the measure, arguing that AIDS got more federal dollars than cancer.

Senate passes Congress labor measure
Article Abstract:
Both the Senate and the House passed slightly different versions of the Congressional Accountability Act in Jan 1995. The Act, if signed by Pres Clinton, will end Congressional exemption on labor laws, and extend protection to 30,000 employees.
