Inside implementation
Article Abstract:
Companies purchasing a software system should always keep in mind that implementation of these tools require planning, time, teamwork and follow-through. Unfortunately, there is always a big gap between software selection and getting the system to run. To provide a deeper understanding of financial software implementation, Management Accounting magazine conducted a roundtable discussion with executives from financial software executives at a SoftEx in Accounting and Finance. Systems Union's Chris Foote said it is always important to understand the product thoroughly to ensure that they are suitable to an organization. Adriaan Theron of SQL Financials, on the other hand, argued that vendors should engage themselves not just in the sales and marketing of their software products but also in the installation and implementation. Others concurred that vendors should send a consultant over to customers to help in implementation.

Walker: deploying a mainframe solution
Article Abstract:
Walker CEO Leonard Liu is convinced that the mainframe is still the best technological solution for high-volume financial transactions and number of concurrent users. Supported by client/server systems, network computing and Internet browsers on the desktop, this technology promises to create a new business model in which finance and administration are transformed into the center of corporate information. Liu advises CFOs, controllers and accounting executives not to be carried away by the hype surrounding the latest technological gadgets, but to use their common sense and talk to informed people to determine the best systems for their companies. He recommends technological solutions that get the job done at an affordable price.
