Investment co. (domestic) industry
Article Abstract:
There is both a market price and a net asset value for a closed-end mutual fund, unlike an open-ended fund, and closed-end funds are at a discount when traded below their net asset value. There have been wide discounts for closed-end funds in 1997, due mainly to the strong stock market through Oct 1997. However, low inflation, productivity gains, and other good economic basics have made many closed-end mutual funds good investments.

Investment co. (domestic) industry
Article Abstract:
The bull stock market is likely to remain intact, even during a period of stock price consolidation, with the generally positive economic outlook for the US, Europe, Latin America and other areas that do not rely on Japan. However, investors need to take shareholder distribution and tax-efficiency problems into consideration when evaluating mutual funds. Those funds with wide trading discounts are best avoided by investors in 1998.
