Investors' Ticket Abroad
Article Abstract:
In 1983 thirteen foreign markets outpaced Wall Street. In 1984 the United States stocks and the dollar are under pressure. Equity prices abroad are rising. For Americans who want to invest in the overseas market the easiest way to do this is to buy American Depositary Receipts (ADR). ADRs represent the underlying shares. These are purchased in dollars and reflect share value and currency changes against the dollar. The Depositary performs all the functions a United States holder of foreign stock would find difficult. For this service a fee is charged. A list of ADRs is provided here.
