Israeli court opens deportee hearing

The Israeli Supreme Court initiated a new hearing on Jan 17, 1993, to consider the legality of the Dec 1992 deportation of 415 Palestinian Arabs to a buffer zone separating Israel and Lebanon. Israel had deported the Palestinians because they were suspected of associating with a terrorist group.

Israel deported approximately 400 Palestinian Arabs to Lebanese territory on Dec 17, 1992, as part of a mass expulsion of suspected terrorists. The deportation followed a series of attacks on Israeli security forces that resulted in the kidnapping and murder of an Israeli border guard.
