Jaguar's grand tour - until S-type arrives

Ford Motor Company paid $4 bil for Jaguar in November 1989. In June 1998, the shareholders of Vickers are meeting to discuss Volkswagen's offer of $1.11 bil and BMW's offer of $877 mil for Rolls-Royce. In Oct 1998, Ford-owned Jaguar will launch the S-Type, which is aimed to compete with Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series, and Audi A4. In 1990, Jaguar lost $240 mil in profits, but Ford executives are aiming to increase production by 50%.

New export credits plan raises hackles all round
Article Abstract:
Australia plans to revise its export credits plan to reflect a company's investment in equipment and research and development rather than export sales. The current program allows companies to obtain duty reductions for using local supplier components. The economic benefits in Australian dollars are expected to be the same under both programs. The credits will reflect the success of a company in international markets.
