Newly merged Chrysler loses 2 executives to rival Ford

Ford Motor Co. confirmed that Shamel T. Rushwin, Sr. vice pres. for international manufacturing and minivan assembly operations at DaimlerChrysler, is Ford's v.p. for advanced manufacturing engineering effective today, 3/2/99. Also, Chris P. Theodore, Sr. vice pres. for platform engineering at DaimlerChrysler, will be v.p. for large and luxury cars, succeeding Ford's Kenneth Kohrs who will retire after 37 years with the firm. The merger of equals is looking more and more like a German takeover.

GM signs 10-year pact to buy aluminum from Alcan
Article Abstract:
Alcan Aluminium Ltd. and General Motors have come to an agreement over a 10-year deal that will allow GM to buy aluminum at a more stable price even when market prices fluctuate. The pact is to make it possible to use more aluminum in car building to improve emissions. Currently GM uses about 210 pounds of aluminum per vehicle. The jury is still out on what more aluminum will do for safety.
