The May 16, 1996, presidential elections in the Dominican Republic resulted in a runoff between Jose Francisco Pena Gomez and Leonel Fernandez that will take place on Jun 30, 1996. The two candidates received the greatest number of votes. The campaign could be marked by violence.

Illinois train, bus crash kills seven
