Outcome quality of small-to-medium-sized enterprise-based alliances: the role of perceived partner behaviors
Article Abstract:
Goal-based and relationship-based factors both determine the quality of alliances forged by small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). A consolidation of the theories on transaction cost economics and social control have determined that speculations of trust, rather than opportunism, support SME-based partnerships. When partner behaviors are assumed to be in contrast with social expectations, the outcomes of SME-based alliances are considered negative even if the goals have been achieved.
