Who knew Kodak would keep so many skeletons in its closet? Company grinds cow remains but has to keep its costs close to the bone to survive
Article Abstract:
Most, if not all, of us don't know that it takes just the right kind of bovine bone marrow to take a good picture. That is why the Eastman Gelatine Corp. plant was founded in 1930. Like most businesses, it needs to cut costs and stay lean, especially after Eastman Kodak earnings slipped in the fourth quarter of 1998. But prices keep going up as the demand rises; more bone marrow is needed for products other than film emulsion, products such as yogurt and gel caps.
