Labor urges renegotiation of NAFTA
Article Abstract:
The AFL-CIO on Feb 17, 1993, asked Congress and the Clinton administration to renegotiate NAFTA in order to guarantee protection for American workers and the environment. NAFTA was endorsed Dec 1992 by the heads of state of the US, Canada and Mexico, and is awaiting approval by their legislatures.

U.S. official pessimistic on NAFTA
Article Abstract:
Leon Panetta stated that he believed that Congress would not ratify NAFTA. Government officials tried to reduce the severity of Panetta's comment by stating that the government supported NAFTA and that Pres Bill Clinton expected the treaty to be ratified.
