Laverton proves that patience is a virtue; after years of gold exploration, hopes are high that she'll be apples at last for the Granny Smith mine in Western Australia
Article Abstract:
The Sunrise Dam orebody in Western Australia's Laverton District cost $137 per ounce to extract with gold prices standing at just under $450 per ounce. This area has excellent exploration potential even though the ore is located in a complicated geological region unexplored by modern mining methods. All deposits mined here have been very profitable.

Hedging helps, but gold miners learning to live on less
Article Abstract:

Hedging softens the Normandy landing
Article Abstract:
Normandy Mining is heeding the advice of brokers promoting three specific gold mine survival strategies: hedging, cost-cutting, and expansion. Normandy has hedged 100% of gold sales for 1997 and 1998, and efficiency gains have cut its production costs. A deal with Great Central Mines will result in a Normandy share in that company.
